Charities we're supporting in 2015: The Peter McVerry Trust
One of the charities Totterdells are supporting in 2015 is the Peter McVerry Trust. Established in 1983 by Father Peter McVerry (who had been working with young people in the north inner city Dublin since his ordination nine years prior), the Trust since then has undertaken much unsung work providing accommodation for the homeless, and housing services, and support to young people. In 2014 there was a daily average of five new presentations of homeless in the Dublin area, and the Peter McVerry Trust do trojan work towards combatting this.
Facilities offered by the Peter McVerry Trust include an Open Access office in Shepard Street which acts as an informal drop-in facility for young homeless people, and incorporates a ‘Streets to Home’ team which provides help and advice with accommodation and legal needs. They also do great work in the area of drug rehabilitation, running two stabilisation and recovery services, along with a Residential Community Detox centre.
Fundraisers are held regularly, including running, walking and cycling events – this May will see the 75km ‘Barrow Way Challenge’
All in all a very worthy cause that Totterdells are proud to support. If you’re considering making a donation the Peter McVerry Trust is a very worthwhile cause. You can donate online here http://www.pmvtrust.ie/donate/
